The opportunity
We are looking for a Data & AI Agent Analyst to join our team. This is a hands-on, mid-level role that blends classic data analytics with the exciting new world of AI agent development. You will turn data into insights that drive smarter decisions, and you will build the AI agents and automations that help our team and our product work faster and smarter. It is the perfect role for someone who loves data and is genuinely excited about what AI can do. This role offers you the opportunity to learn, grow, and build a career at the forefront of where analytics and AI meet.
What you will be doing
You will own the delivery of reports, dashboards, and analytics that our business and clients rely on, while also designing, building, and improving AI agents that automate the work behind the scenes and power new features in the Commspace product. You will use your out-of-the-box thinking to spot where AI and automation can make a real difference, and then make it happen.
Here is what your day-to-day would look like:
Data analysis & reporting
- Develop and maintain regular reports and dashboards for key business metrics.
- Create and optimise SQL queries for data extraction and analysis, applying advanced techniques such as window functions, stored procedures, materialised views, and query performance tuning.
- Design and implement data visualisation dashboards, generating actionable insights from complex datasets.
- Present findings to stakeholders in clear, concise formats and turn ad-hoc data requests around promptly (typically within 24 hours, depending on complexity and priority).
- Ensure data quality, accuracy, and integrity across all analyses, and implement data validation processes.
- Write and maintain clear documentation for reporting and analysis processes, using GitHub for version control and collaboration.
AI agent development & automation
- Design, build, test, and maintain AI agents that automate internal analytics, reporting, and operational workflows, reducing manual effort across the team.
- Develop customer-facing AI agents and features within the Commspace product that help advisers and their clients get more value from their data.
- Apply large language models, prompt engineering, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) over company data to build reliable, useful agent experiences.
- Integrate AI agents with internal systems, APIs, and databases, and collaborate with the development team to deploy them safely into production.
- Define evaluation criteria and monitoring for agents to ensure accuracy, safety, and consistent quality over time.
- Build automated workflows using automation tools (e.g. Make) and set up proof-of-concept solutions using Docker, databases, and ETL tools.
- Stay hands-on with emerging AI tooling and frameworks, and champion practical, responsible ways to bring them into the business.
Collaboration & business support
-
- Partner with business units to understand their needs and build custom data and AI solutions.
- Support data-driven and AI-assisted decision-making across the organisation.
- Provide light-touch training and share best practices on analytics and AI tools with team members.
Who you are
You are an out-of-the-box thinker, a brilliant multi-tasker, have a natural aptitude for organising and are always keen to solve tricky problems with some creative ideas. You are equally happy digging through a large dataset in SQL as you are experimenting with a new AI model to see what it can do. In your everyday life, you inspire change and believe that there is always a better, easier, smarter way to do everything (yes, everything!). You are analytical and strategic, always consider the bigger picture, and you get genuinely excited about using data and AI to make work better. You have strong interpersonal skills and push people to be the best version of themselves.
The ideal candidate will have:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in data science, computer science, business analysis, finance, or a related field (required)
- Minimum 5 years’ working experience in a data analyst, BI, or similar data-focused role (required)
- Hands-on experience building or working closely with AI agents, LLM applications, or automation solutions (required)
- Strong proficiency in SQL (PostgreSQL) and Python for data cleaning, analysis, and building AI/automation solutions
- Familiarity with LLMs, prompt engineering, and agent frameworks, plus concepts like RAG and model evaluation
- Experience with data visualisation / BI tools and advanced Excel (Power Query, Power Pivot, data models)
- Working knowledge of APIs, automation tools (Make), Docker, and GitHub
- Experience in the Fintech / SaaS industry (advantageous)
- Working experience in the South African financial services / financial planning industry (advantageous)
- Analytical thinking and strong problem-solving skills
- Highly adaptable to a variety of software, tools, and programs
- Hungry, resilient, and motivated to succeed
- Self-motivated and proactive, yet a team player
- Detail-orientated and capable of delivering a high level of accuracy
- Organisational and administrative skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English; Afrikaans advantageous)
